After all the Booze and Boobs we needed some culture. Chichen Itza provided that in the form of an ancient mayan city where human sacrifices were common and they have a building just for skulls. Now that´s culture! Yeah!
We stayed in a little village just outside the site called Piste. The ruins themselves are awe inspiring, so much and so big and so spooky. The human sacrifice bit isn´t a joke, they dredged one of the wells, and found 60 skeletons of children. At the evening "sound and light" show, they recreated one of the sacrifices. Nice.
Daniel, however, ignored all of this, concentrating as he was on the engaging task of trying to get the perfect photo of an iguana. This apparently involved talking to the iguanas, "Look at me! Stay there! Give me an iguana pose! Feel it!"
We also visited a "cenote", a sinkhole or underground lake. We were both a bit wussy about going in for a swim, as it was so deep you couldn´t see the bottom (even though the water was crystal clear), and full of strange catfish type things. We did though. We´re so brave.
